My name is Ima; I live in Anytown, Alaska with my parents and younger brother. I enjoy learning new things and meeting people from different walks of life. One of the blessings of living in Alaska is all the fun you can have outdoors. Our family does a lot of outdoor things together: camping, fishing, berry picking, and skiing. We love cooking together and playing games as a family. Since my mother is a teacher, reading is a big part of our family, too. My dad's work with the Forest Service means he always has something to teach us about the great outdoors. My love for art inspires me to bring the beauty of Alaska home and to share it with others through art, creative writing, and photography. The independent spirit of Alaskan life has helped me develop my own independence skills as I head toward college.

I am currently a Senior at Anytown High School and will graduate in May of 2009. In addition to challenging myself with college prep classes, I have focused on taking classes related to creative arts and technology:

10/07-Current: Part-time concessions at the Anytime Theatre, Anytown, Alaska
Summer 2008: Barista at Kaladi Brothers Coffee Company, Anytown, Alaska
6/08: Wedding photography and videography for the Bates/Lewis wedding, Seward, Alaska

Work has been a way for me to hone my people skills as I work with the public, putting the customers' needs above my own. It has also taught me to be organized and disciplined in order to juggle the time demands of work, home, school, and activities. I have especially enjoyed the creative outlet that free-lance photography has given me. My first paid job impressed upon me the importance of doing quality work.

Each of these experiences has taught me something new about working as a team with others to accomplish a goal. Helping others is always so gratifying, and I look forward to many other volunteer opportunities throughout my future.

Looking ahead to my future, I want to further my education and pursue a career in which I can really use my strengths and skills. I have always loved reading, writing, art, photography and travel. I also have a natural gift in understanding and applying technology to these areas. My goal is to major in photojournalism in college. I will also take courses in graphic design and computer applications. Technology is changing rapidly, and I want to use it to connect people from around the world with others through their stories and images of their everyday lives.
